An "A"!

Kathryn wrote her first "A" today!  I'm so proud of her!

I wrote her name.  She's been drawing As.

my little helper

Kathryn has been "helping" me with my chores lately.

First, she thought she would save me time by painting her own toenails.  They needed more pink.

Then, I was being too slow and not picking the right items for our dinners for the next couple of weeks.  She decided to fill it in for me.

And then... she needed to teach me how to fold the laundry because for the past twenty plus years I've been doing it all wrong...

She's growing up.  And even though sometimes she can be "that child" that makes me want to scoop her up and run away from public, I love every kissable square inch of her.

What a day

I had planning on taking the kids outside this morning.  But on my way out I hear the lawn guys.  Figures.  I was deciding on what to do instead and a friend called to invite us to the park with them.

We play.  I was ready to get home.  It was lunch time and I knew that Andrew was getting tired.  I told Kathryn if she wanted to go to Daddy's picnic tomorrow, we needed to leave.  She bee-lined it for the car.  I don't know if she forgot or was too excited about tomorrow, but she didn't see the rope fence.  :(

I think my heart stopped until she screamed.  She was clothes-lined and lying on the ground.  I almost dropped Andrew running to her.  She wasn't as hurt as she could have been.  I think she may not be running at the park for a while.

We came home and ate lunch.  Afterwards I felt the need to give her a treat.  So we made M&M cookies.

Now she is taking a nap.  My poor little girl :(

Teaching items

Kathryn recently has rekindled her love of Super Why.  For a while I was beginning to think I was going to have to teach her letters all over again.

Yesterday I got this idea.  Well maybe I had it for a few days but I acted on it finally.  A friend of mine has a daughter a month younger than Kathryn and she is tracing letters at daycare.  I wondered if I could get Kathryn tracing.  I printed a sheet of letters and numbers and then laminated them (thanks Lyn for the laminating machine).

I then did one of "octagon dots" to see if I could get her to start playing connect the dots.  Instead she drew circles around the dots.

Here are my creations.  Oh and do you know how few fonts use a lower case "a" like you would write?

The green circle

K:  Mommy, you took the green circle away from me. Me:  the green circle?  What green circle?
K:  Yes.  My toy green circle.  It is in the car.  That's where you left it.
Me:  Kathryn, I have no idea what green circle you are talking about.
K: (now on the verge of tears)  My green toy circle. You took it away at the house with food.  It is in the car.  I know that is where it is!
We open the car door and the little light in my head goes off.
Me:  (reaching into the outside toy bin and pulling out a green frisbee from Moe's) Is this your green toy circle?
K:  Yes!  See there is a picture of Bob on it (pointing to the tomato). I love my green circle.

Moe's now serves their kids meals on green frisbees.

Yummy muffins

I've been on a baking spree the last few weeks.  Mostly strawberry muffins.  Today I opted for a little change...  Strawberry Banana.  YUM!  The kids won't stay out of them.  But they keep taking them to their "hideout", aka under the piano.  Crazy kids.
