Kathryn is one month!!

Our little angel is one month today!!! We went to the doctor for her check up and once again the doctor said "She's perfect!", but we knew that already right!???!?! She had her second Hep B shot. She is up to 11 lbs 4 oz and 21 1/2 inches. Eric & I really thought she was longer than that. She seems to bigger than that to us, but maybe not. But we can definitely feel the weight!

Anyway... here's two pictures from this afternoon. Isn't she a cutie?!!?!?

back to my old jeans

I guess I haven't updated everyone on how I am doing. Everything seems to be going well. I have started wearing my normal clothes again. It was really surprising to me that I could get back into my jeans. I love my maternity jeans (and they were really comfy for car riding!), but also like my old jeans... plus I have more than one pair!

I am down to about 7 pounds less than when I first got pregnant. Whoo hoo! Not where I would like to be overall, but still doing good for having a three week old.

I have to figure out how to sleep more though. Eric keeps telling me to try to nap while Kathryn naps, but I feel the need to be productive which is surprising in itself because I love to nap! I can usually get at least one three hour block of sleep in at night... sometimes up to 5 hours, but then we have nights like last night where I may have gotten four hours total broken up in shifts of about 45 minutes each. Doesn't do well for being able to think in the mornings... luckily coffee is still my friend!

two & three week pictures

Here are a few pictures from the past week or so.

Kathryn's first road trip

This past weekend we went house hunting in North Carolina. Kathryn did a great job considering this was her first car trip that was longer than 20 minutes. She got a little fussy but only when she was hungry or needed to be changed. Both situations are completely normal. She slept a lot in the car, especially on the way down. The way home she was more awake but seemed to just be enjoying the ride.

Here's a picture of her in the house we got into a bidding war on. We gave in and let the other couple have it. It wasn't worth offering more money as it may have been over priced. It was a really great house in a great neighborhood. But we realize that there's a better house out there for us.

We will return to NC sometime in the next few weeks to try again. Eric may go down by himself since he could fly down for cheap and not have to worry about having to stop and feed Kathryn and not sleeping as well. We are praying that it doesn't take too many trips and that our house sells. We have had a couple of showings and an open house, but no real interest yet. We'll keep everyone updated on the house hunting.

meeting more family

These are actually in reverse order.
But Kathryn met more family in the past week.

no more cord

On July 15th Kathryn lost her umbilical cord and started showing a real belly button! Yay!! Luckily for me, Eric found it. He went to change her diaper and it was actually stuck to her shirt. Here's a pic of what he found.

Not much else excitement with this. Her belly button leaked/oozed a little bit for a few days but looks a lot better now. I clean it every day just because it looks a little icky sometimes. But we can say one more phase has passed.

it has been a while....

Hey all... I know it has been a while. We took a house hunting trip this weekend so once I get back into the swing today, I'll try to get a couple of posts up. Look for:
no more cord
last week's pics
more family
kathryn's first trip

There may be others, but those are the ones I have in my head right now.

one week down!!!

It has been a couple of days since we last updated everyone. Kathryn has been off the blanket since Sunday evening. Yay!!! Which means freedom for mom & dad!!! Eric's mom has been up here since Sunday evening helping cleaning and getting the house ready for showings. We appreciate all her help this week and all the help from my parents over the weeks they were here!!

She had her week old appointment on Tuesday (okay so a week and a day). She is back up to 8 lbs 5 oz... with a wet diaper that is. Luckily the doc said it is close enough that I don't have to keep waking her up in the night. I can let her sleep!! So we are getting at least one stint of 4+ hours of sleep in... course it is from 4 to 8. She has been good at eating and sleeping during the day. Course right now she has been asleep for a good two hours. I think Uncle Randy's sleep gene may be kicking in. Oh yeah... the doc says she's perfect! Like we didn't know that already!!! Course the doc had us going for a minute about signing a piece of paper that we couldn't move and take her with us.

We have ventured out of the house a few times. We have been to Moe's to eat dinner and we've been to K-Mart and BJ's. Eric & I went to Sears and Babies-R-us last night while Eric's mom babysat. I think we were gone for little over an hour.

I think that is everything for now. let me know if I missed something!!

I'll post a couple of recent pictures in a minute...

our little glow worm

Kathryn had her first pediatrician visit yesterday. everything looks great except she has a bit of jaundice. the doctor ordered a "biliblanket" for her to wear to help breakdown the excess bilirubin in her blood. (it's a flexible fiberoptic "plate" that goes around her midsection. the bad part is it has to connect with a hose-like conduit to the light machine.)

since she's supposed to wear it constantly unless we're changing her diaper, she got her first at-home bath before we put it on. here are a couple pics:

i was expecting the biliblanket thing to be much much worse. Kathryn actually did really well with it. she slept much better last night than her first night home. maybe she's just used to the place now, or maybe the noise from the light machine was calming. she slept from about 2am to 7am! (mommy loved that.)

here's a picture of our little glow worm:

notice the fuzzy clean hair! (she takes after daddy on that.)

the nurse is suppose to visit us today to take some blood so they can monitor her bilirubin level to make sure it's going down. we hope to get her off the machine as quickly as possible. even if she seems to like it (or at least not dis-like it), i'm sure it will get in the way sooner or later since it severely limits her mobility. stay tuned for more updates.

p.s. i also hope to post more pictures today at our website, http://www.thewaughs.org/.

home

we got to bring Kathryn home yesterday. here's the obligatory photo:

here's Kathryn and Mommy cuddling on the couch:

the cats were apprehensive at first, but i think they are warming up to her. we're having to try a little harder now to keep them out of her room.

Kathryn had a couple visits last night: Carter and Mary from our church and Nick and Steph from our small group bible study. i think she enjoyed the company! (if you'd like to visit, it would be great to call us first just to make sure we're up to it.)

everything's still fine with mom & baby. we're just keeping an eye on Kathryn's bilirubin count to watch for jaundice. Kathryn's blood type is A+ and Jenn's is O+, and the incompatibility can be quite a job for her not-quite-mature liver. they are monitoring her to make sure she doesn't need treatment.

speaking of, we're off to the Doc's this afternoon for her first pediatrician visit. we'll keep everyone updated!

we continue to appreciate everyone's support and prayers.

hiccups

here's a short little clip of Kathryn "in action" (she has the hiccups).

enjoy!

correction!

Jennifer was understandably very tired last night. we had discussed variations on spelling of Kathryn's names, and she inadvertently misspelled her middle name! (it's been corrected.)

Kathryn's middle name will be officially spelled "Nicole." (At least I hope so, since that's what I wrote on the application for her birth certificate!)

sorry for any inconvenience!!!
