15 month check up

Just a quick note. Kathryn had her 15 month check up this morning. She is 32" tall and 21 lbs... my little bean pole. Doc said she wasn't concerned about her weight because she has seemed to hit a new curve that she is following. She's just tall. I could have told her that. Everything else is fine.

She has allergies so the doc said to get Zyrtec. So we'll try that for a few weeks and see if the runny nose goes away. So the interesting part is the doc said because her nose isn't red, but more of a purple-ly that's how they can tell if it is allergies or not just by looking at her. I had never heard that.

I did go ahead and let them give her the flu shot. I was nervous just because I can't have it (and I know this is the year that I need it the most... I'll talk to my doc next week about that. Oh and I read the flier on the office wall and it seems I can't even have the nose spray version. We'll see.) I didn't know the first dose was actually two doses when they are this little. She doesn't seem to be having a reaction to it besides the initial crying.

I just need to ramble...

I'm now half way along in the baby #2 process. I am feeling movement which is making this oh so much more real. Even though I am showing (haven't taken a picture yet... maybe tonight) I don't think I have gained very much weight. Maybe three or four pounds by my scale. I think it is to a lack of appetite. I still haven't hit the eating-for-two phase. I really want to and at some meals I'll eat well and then dinner comes and I don't feel like eating. I go to the doctor next week so I'll ask her if that's normal. I didn't really up my eating with Kathryn so maybe it is okay.

Right now I'm tired. It probably has little to do with baby #2 and more with staying up past 11 to play video games with Eric and literally chasing Kathryn through the grocery store this morning. Doesn't everyone get a workout at the grocery store? And instead of taking a nap when she finally did, I decided to continue the laundry, empty & reload the dishwasher, clean the bathroom counters, clean the toilet, play with our dwindling budget, and recreate a chore list that I've been working on for months. Now I'm sitting on the couch with a purring kitty and wishing for my knee to stop throbbing. I should probably think about what we are having for dinner since Eric will be home within the hour.

Kathryn has had a snotty nose. You are surprised, right? But it hasn't affected her energy level in the least. She loves her freedom to run and scream and it doesn't matter where... grocery store, Barnes & Noble, the mall, church... anywhere she can wiggle out of your grasp. And oh my does she wiggle. Let's see what else is new with her... have I told you guys we have taught her how to tickle? She'll tickle toes and belly buttons. Oh the other day she lifted my shirt, said "baby" and gave my belly a kiss. How's that for big sister love? She gives kisses now. She'll kiss things (like make the kissing noise and all) but if Eric or I want a kiss from her she just holds her mouth up like "okay you can kiss me now" and if you are lucky it is closed mouth and no slobber/snot, but don't count on it.

I haven't taken a lot of pictures lately. If I get the camera out to take her picture, she usually just runs towards the camera and ruins the picture I was going for anyway. I did manage to get this one. This shows you a typical day around here.



Notice that she is wearing shoes and a shirt, but no pants. And the shoes she has on are her dressy shoes. The cookie monster balloon is from her birthday party in July. What is not typical is that the floor behind her is not covered in toys. I guess I had just vacuumed or something.

Okay I should probably go be a good KD (kitchen dweller for all of you non-Techies.. and yes, I'll be barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen) and stare inside the fridge & pantry until something jumps out at me for dinner. Do things really jump out? This would be a lot easier if I would just have a craving or two.

Eric & I keep saying that I need to post Kathryn's vocabulary just so you can go "wow". We aren't proud parents or anything.

So by 14 months these are the actual words she can say (not in any order... well by the order I wrote them on the wipe board on the refrigerator):

She can also say and point out: eye, ear, hair, nose, and mouth. She has recently added a form of belly button, that unless her shirt (or anyone else's) is raised, sounds a lot like baby.

She also has distinct sounds for Dixon, Daisy, kitty, and dog. She will tell you that the dog says "woof woof" but can't get the meow part yet. There are a lot of dogs in the neighborhood and apparently we have quiet kitties. She has started making a sound for snack, but usually just says more and goes to the pantry or fridge.

We also think she has a phrase for "what's that". Or at least it sounds like what she is trying to say when we have something she doesn't know what it is.

Oh, and for some reason "diaper" sounds like "boppy". Not sure where that confusion came from, but she is clear that if she needs a new diaper to say "boppy".

I think that is it. I'm sure I am forgetting something that Eric will remind me of when he reads this.

if you haven't heard...

Kathryn is going to have a baby brother!!!! Yay for a little boy!!! No, we have no idea on names yet. We have a huge list of ones that have been ruled out, but we have not gotten very far past that. And like before, even if we did, you may not know what we decided on.

Not much else new on the baby front. I'm feeling better, but haven't found that 2nd trimester appetite yet... dinner is actually hard for me to eat some nights. I do eat, but I just don't feel like it. Haven't really gained any weight... maybe two or three pounds.

Eric showed Kathryn one of the ultrasound pictures and she said "baby". Hopefully she will adjust well.

trip to zoo for Eric's bday

For Eric's birthday we decided to take a trip to the NC Zoo. We had bought a year pass last time we went so it was going to be a cheap afternoon out. We picked a perfect day to go. It rained all morning and school had already started. I think we may have seen 20 other people there, and a lot of those were the workers. The giraffes and the zebras were in hiding so that was disappointing, but we had a great time and the afternoon weather was wonderful. We had a few rain drops on the way home, but just a nice cool breeze in the low 70s for the afternoon.
