We talked Mom into coming with us and took two days driving from Georgia to make it to Iowa. To help break up the trip we stopped at a couple of tourist places.
Halfway for us was St. Louis and we found a hotel that didn't ask how many animals we had with us. Did you catch that earlier? Me, my mom, two kids, two cats and a dog. And our stuff. And we survived. For a bit on day two I wasn't sure that Dixon, my 10-year-old cat that has now lived in five states, was going to make it. The highway drive from St. Louis to Des Moines is beautiful with very little traffic. But that also means very few places to stop. I don't remember how far along on that trip we were that morning, I do believe we had already stopped in Hannibal, but I got a whiff. I checked the animals, but couldn't find anything. We kept driving. I couldn't stand the smell and pulled over again, this time in turn lane. Mom walked the dog. I checked Daisy. Nope, not her. Dixon. My fuzzy one with long hair. He had soiled himself and not with solid stuff. I was very glad for the extra bottle of water and packet of baby wipes I had stashed away. He got a wipe down bath which he wasn't happy for. I was also happy that I had found a vet in Ankeny to board the animals at so I did not have to lock them in a bathroom again that night. He was not a happy camper.
We made it to Ankeny and that was our only issue. For driving for three days with a car full, I'll call it a success.
More on our summer later, but so far we have gone to South Dakota, had family visit, gone to the Iowa State Fair, and my baby girl turned five & started Kindergarten.
