what's going on

I've been asked to give an update on Kathryn's happenings. So here is what is going on...

one...two...three
We think she can count! Or at least recognizes us counting to three. Sometimes all you have to say is "one" and she is all giggles. Usually the counting results in Mommy blowing on her stomach, Daddy "dropping" her a little, or something else silly in her face. Sometimes I just count to three to hear her giggle.

icky rice
I've only been able to give her a little bit of rice each night. Sometimes I don't bother if she's in one of those moods that I know I'll be wearing more of it than will make it into her mouth. Not sure how to get her to eat. There were a couple of nights she ate almost all of it. Other nights she just screams. Tonight would be one of those. Any tips or tricks? I'm supposed to have her on baby food by Christmas. At this rate, I don't see that happening.

scooting boogey
Kathryn isn't crawling yet and doesn't really scoot either. She can seem to do circles either on her back or tummy. She still doesn't like tummy time for more than about five minutes, but she is getting better at it. She can go back and forth from back to tummy, but still only to the left. I am making her practice/figure out how to sit by herself. Not sure when that is supposed to happen, but figured she could use the practice.

sleepy time
She's still sleeping about 7 to 8 hours at night. I promise I lay her down on her back, but she doesn't always stay. Like now for instance. I can hear that she has flipped over and not liking it. Time for Mommy to flip her back and find her paci. We'll see how long that lasts. I miss her three to four naps a day before Eric gets home. Now I get one around 10 and another around 3. She then wants to nap again sometime around 6:30. Usual bed time is around 10. Tonight she fell asleep around 9:30 so we'll see how long of a night I get.

time to shop
She is in six months shirts of which I have a good supply. After six month clothing, I have sporatic pieces and sizes... all the way up to 2T. Pants she is still in three months and even a few 0 to 3 still fit. I did buy bigger socks since I had been told the ones I had were too small. I don't think it matters because she has figured out how to pull them off.

toes!
She has found her toes. It makes diaper changing time nice since she sometimes holds her feet out of the way. But she still love to be a "naked baby" (this term usually gets a giggle out of her also).

and teeth!
There are now two very sharp bottom teeth! Yay! But this means she is teething and anything that she can grab goes to her mouth. Even then she doesn't have to be able to grab. She left a pretty good mark on my upper arm the other night. I'm not sure which is worse... bite marks or hickeys.

I think that is a pretty good wrap up of where we are now. Here are a couple of pictures :)

Eric calls this her "Fight the Power" pose.
Not sure what power she is fighting...

If you click on this one to make it larger, you can see her two teeth.

I was scrapbooking and she was playing/eating her toys

Yay for an update! She's getting big and growing up fast!

On the rice. My advice is just to skip it. Nathan didn't like any of the grains we tried. Caroline was ok with oatmeal, but didn't really care for the rice. (And have you smelled that stuff? Yuck!) I would say move on to the veggies and fruits. You can always mix some rice in with the others if you want to make sure she gets some grains in as well (this is what we did with Caroline's food). Also, my kids were able to eat instant oatmeal pretty early. I would buy the plain stuff in a canister and mix a little fruit (usually apples) with it to give it a little flavor. They still eat it that way all the time.

I agree with the other post...Cooper has started to eat some homemade sweet potato and I mix a little rice cereal in with it. He loves it. Hope it works!
